Governmental Financial Aid

Students who wish to receive governmental financial aid from federal or state sources must complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which is available in the Admissions Office or Financial Aid Office or on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Eligibility for and the amount of aid is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to, the source of income, number of students in college, dependent or independent, student need, how the aid will be used and maintaining satisfactory academic progress. Details can be obtained from the Jacksonville College Financial Aid Policies and Procedures Manual or by contacting the Financial Aid Office or Admissions Office.

Various types of governmental financial aid include:

  • PELL Grant
  • Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG)
  • Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
  • Tuition Equalization Grant (TEG)
  • Leveraging Educational Assistance Partnership (LEAP)
  • Special Leveraging Educational Assistance Partnership (SLEAP)
  • Federal College Work Study (FCWS)
  • Texas College Work Study (TCWS)

 

Benefits For Veterans And Other Eligible Persons

Veterans and other eligible persons should apply directly to an office of the Veterans Administration before the school term begins. At the time of registration the veteran should submit to the Registrar a certificate of eligibility obtained from the Veterans Administration. A veteran entitled to benefits under these laws will receive a monthly check varying in amount with the number of dependents and class load. The student shall pay college charges upon registration.

 

Vocational Rehabilitation

The Texas Rehabilitation Commission offers assistance for tuition and non-refundable fees to students who have certain disabling conditions provided their vocational objectives have been approved by a TRC counselor. Examples of such conditions are orthopedic deformities, emotional disorders, diabetes, epilepsy, heart conditions, etc. Other services are also available to assist the disabled student to become employable. Applications for such service should be directed to: Texas Rehabilitation Commission, 504 East Pine St., Jacksonville, TX 75766, telephone 903-586-3526.
