MATH 0106/0108-Math Lab for Developmental Algebra
A required non-credit course that accompanies Math 0306 and Math 0308.
Computer-based, hands-on practice to develop skills for problem solving In algebra.
MATH 0306-Elementary Developmental Algebra
A non-credit course that reviews beginning arithmetic and algebraic concepts.
Includes operations on integers, rational and real numbers; simplifying algebraic
expressions; working with absolute values, radicals, exponents, and the concepts of ratio
and proportion; solving and graphing linear equations and inequalities, and systems
of equations; operations with polynomials and factoring. This class is designed for
those students with little or no high school algebra. Concurrent enrollment in MATH
0106/0108 is required.
MATH 0308-Intermediate Developmental Algebra
A non-credit course that offers a brief review of topics from Elementary
Developmental Algebra, then extends the concepts of absolute values, radicals, exponents,
solving and graphing linear equations and inequalities, and systems of equations and
inequalities; operations with polynomials, special products, and factoring. This course
provides a foundation for continued work with rational expressions and equations,
quadratic equations and inequalities, and complex numbers. Concurrent enrollment In
MATH 0106/0108 is required. Prerequisite: MATH 0306 or acceptable placement score.
* MATH 1314-College Algebra
A brief review of real numbers, exponents, radicals, expressions, products
and factoring, complex numbers, linear and quadratic equations. A study of equations,
relations, and functions, including polynomial, rational, logarithmic and exponential;
inequalities, matrices, systems of equations; theory of equations; sequences and series,
and variation. Prerequisite: MATH 0308 or acceptable placement score/exemption.
* MATH 1316-Plane Trigonometry
A study of trigonometric functions of angles using degree and radian
measure; graphs of trigonometric functions, inverse functions; identities; solutions
of trigonometric equations; solution of general triangles; parametric equations, polar
coordinates, and complex numbers. Prerequisite: MATH 1314 or acceptable placement
score/exemption.
*MATH 1332-Contemporary Mathematics
A course in modern algebra and geometry designed for the liberal arts student.
Topics include logic, mathematical and statistical reasoning; set theory and number
theory; problem solving; an introduction to probability; financial management.
Appropriate applications are included. Prerequisite: MATH 0308 or acceptable placement
score/exemption.
* MATH 1350-Fundamentals of Mathematics I
Concepts of sets, functions, numeration systems, number theory, and properties
of the natural numbers, integers, rational, and real number systems with an emphasis on
problem solving and critical thinking. Prerequisite: MATH 1314.
* MATH 1351-Fundamentals of Mathematics II
Elementary concepts of geometry, probability, and statistics, as well as
applications of the algebraic properties of real numbers to concepts of measurement
with an emphasis on problem solving and critical thinking. Prerequisite: MATH 1314.
* MATH 2342-Statistics
A study of elementary statistics designed to meet the needs of business,
education and social and behavioral science students. Topics include probability,
random variables, sampling, collection, tabulation and analysis of data, normal and
binomial distribution, statistical inferences, linear regression and correlation and testing
of hypotheses. Prerequisite: MATH 1314.
* MATH 2413-Calculus I
A study beginning with the Cartesian Plane, algebraic curves, functions and
inverse functions, progressing to limits, continuity and the derivative. Trigonometric,
logarithmic and exponential functions and their derivatives as well as applications of
the derivative will be discussed. The definite and indefinite integral will be introduced.
Prerequisite: MATH 1314 and MATH 1316 or acceptable placement score/exemption.
* MATH 2414-Calculus II
A thorough investigation of integration, with emphasis on techniques of
integration and application of integration, including area, volume, centroids, work,
arc length and fluid pressure. Included are hyperbolic functions, conic sections, polar
coordinates, parametric equations, sequences and series. Prerequisite: MATH 2413.
