Circulation Procedures & Rules

Main Book Collection

Circulating: These books comprise the bulk of the library's holdings. The general and oversized collections are included. There is no prefix in the call number of general collection volumes. Oversized volumes have the prefix "Q" in the call number and are shelved in a separate section.

Check Out Procedure

  1. Ask a library staff member to checkout book(s) for you. Your I.D. card is required to check books out each time.
  2. Your book will be stamped with a due-date in the back of the book. The latest date stamped on this sheet will be the date the book is due back in the library.
  3. If a renewal of materials is desired, bring the materials and they will be renewed for two more weeks. Your I.D. card is again required to recheck materials. No material will be renewed by telephone.

Periodicals

Periodicals are not checked out. If you should require a copy of an article you may photocopy it. Copies made of periodicals are 10 cents a page. Copyright laws apply.

Reference Books

Reverence books are in a separate section and have an "R" above their call number. Reference books are not checked out. If you should require a copy of an article you may photocopy it. Copies are 10 cents a page.

Audiovisual Materials

Videos and DVDs are available for student checkout for one week. Late charges are same as for books. Some audiovisual items are placed on reserve for faculty use only.

Microform Collection

These items are housed in the Archive Room and are for inhouse use only.

Borrowing

Students are responsible for materials borrowed in their names. They will pay fines and pay for loss or damage to materials for which they are responsible. Books from the general collection are checked out for two weeks with renewal privileges.

Reserve Books

Reserve Books are kept behind the circulation desk. These are materials instructors have placed in the library for their classes. The instructor will advise the library staff whether the material may circulate overnight.

Fines

Fines are assessed at $.25 per book per day. Checking out privileges are suspended when an individual has overdue books or unpaid fines charged to him/her.

A charge consisting of the replacement cost of the item shall be assessed for each damaged or lost piece of material. A book that is lost and no longer in print will automatically be charged $30.00.
