RE: Production: Student Directed One Act Plays
On March 1, 2005, at 7:30 p.m., the Theater Program at Jacksonville College will present a trio of student directed one act plays. Each spring, theater majors and minors have the opportunity to take total charge of their own production. Students begin by selecting a play. They then cast it, hold rehearsals, design sets and costumes, gather props, design lights and sound, and assist with writing programs and publicity. By the time the production is over, they have a full range of experience in the art of directing.
Josh Ross, sophomore music education major will present This Way to Heaven by Douglass Parkhirst. Ross is a member of the choir, Singers and Quartet. He has acted in the school’s productions of Christmas Cards and Our Town. Last semester, he was lighting designer and technician for I Hate Hamlet. Cast for this show include Patricia Mayo, Krystal King, Dione Traylor and David Trawick. Directing the second show, Integrity, is sophomore theater major, Hayley Childs. In addition to appearing in the school’s production of Our Town, Childs has been active at Cherokee Civic Theater and has trained at the Swink Studio of Dance. She was also, student assistant director of last fall’s show, I Hate Hamlet. Performing in Child’s show will be Tiffiney McMakin, Josh Ross and Dr. Tony Cleaver, chairman of the Religion Department at Jacksonville College. The last show of the evening will be The Real Inspector Hound, written by Tom Stoppard and directed by Casey Claiborne. Claiborne is a sophomore, broadcasting major who appeared in Christmas Cards, was the Stage Manager in Our Town, and portrayed John Barrymore in I Hate Hamlet at the college. He is an award winning actor. In addition to playing John Barrymore last semester, he helped to write and perform the original music for the production. Members of the cast include Claiborne, Jack Meza, Daniel Toole, Jasmine Whisenant, Aaron Hanna, Tiffiney McMakin, Hayley Childs, James Heron and Michael Johnson.
Technical crew includes the members of the theater appreciation class, Molly Walker, Erica Green, volunteer light and sound operators, and back stage crew.
Come, join us for a delightful evening and support these talented young directors. Tickets are $2.00 and can be purchased from the book store or business office at the school. Call Mary Lewis at (903)586-2518 or email mlewis@jacksonville-college.edu for information about the production.
